Georgia 2018 (Day 2) - Jvari monastery -- 26 Apr 2018

Rakshu (Rakshinda my colleague & bestie) & me woke up early and spent some quality time @ the balcony enjoying the beautiful weather.
It was cool and peaceful morning and a much needed refreshment. After some time we got fresh and  three of us (including my daughter) went for breakfast.  The hotel served pretty good breakfast with our Indian Tea.

Yesterday itself we were told to gather at the hotel lobby sharp 9:00 am.  All of us were ready for today's tour.

We were totally enjoying a different place.  we would see the old Soviet in the people, their houses , vehicles etc. (It was totally different & amazing).  I felt some characters came our from the stories which I read as a child.

Coming back to the tour, our destination today was to Mtskheta town, known as the town museum for its historical buildings and UNESCO Heritage monuments. Mtskheta  is one of the oldest cities in Georgia.  It was the former capital of Georgia.

Jvari monastery

Our first point was Jvari Monastery; The Jvari Monastery like many other Georgian churches is built on hill top.  The monastery has a beautiful view overlooking the town of Mtskheta.  One can also notice  the merger of  two rives "the Kura" & "the Aragva".  Indeed it is a splendid view from the hill top. Jvari monastery can be translated as the monastery of cross.

According to beliefs, in the early 4th century Saint Nino stayed here to pray and erected a wooden cross on Mtskheta’s highest hill.

After this blissful morning... our next point was Svetitskhoveli; On return from the Jvari monastery we spotted a tree where all of its branches was tied up with cloth ribbons.  Unfortunately I was not able click the picture of it.  As per our tour guide, the tree was called "Wish Tree".
